An extensive new study carried out in Germany and Poland has revealed widespread societal support for rewilding and the return of wildlife in the Oder Delta. It also highlighted the need to continue promoting the benefits of nature recovery and the restoration of natural processes – particularly to people living in and around the delta.

Wild nature has the potential to provide valuable jobs and income for people in and around the Iberian Highlands rewilding landscape. In 2023, Rewilding Spain will take steps to enhance nature-based tourism in the area.

A diverse event calendar saw the Rewilding Apennines team engage with a wide range of people and local communities in 2022, helping to promote rewilding. Their efforts are driving the rewilding movement forward, with real momentum going into 2023.

Scottish NGO Seawilding is working to restore seagrass beds and oyster populations in Loch Craignish, while supporting the creation of green jobs. Joining the European rewilding network will amplify the benefits for nature, climate and local communities.

World Rewilding Day saw many of Rewilding Europe’s rewilding teams organise public events. Showcasing rewilding efforts, these brought people closer to nature.

For many years a network of dykes and canals have choked the life out of the Danube Delta. Rewilding efforts in the Ukrainian part of the delta are now restoring water flow, enhancing wildlife populations and benefitting local communities.

A new rewilding centre in northern Portugal’s Greater Côa Valley will build engagement with local residents and showcase ongoing rewilding efforts.

The Tarutino Steppe Festival took place at the end of September in the Ukrainian Danube Delta. Showcasing local nature, culture and rewilding efforts, the event will help local communities by enhancing the area’s tourism value.

The Wilder Blean initiative is working to create a wilder woodland landscape by boosting natural grazing, including the introduction of the UK’s first European bison herd. European Rewilding Network membership will help the initiative realise its rewilding vision.
