Forum

Welcome to the European Rewilding Network forum where ERN members will be able to discuss all kinds of rewilding related subjects with each other. Besides the possibility to respond on posts, documents (e.g. presentations from our webinars) will be uploaded here for further assistance. The aim of this forum is to enhance the active exchange of experiences with each other, being able to directly correspond to each others questions or remarks. Like the webinars, this forum is only available for members of ERN. If you are a member of ERN and would like to participate, or if your organisation would like to join the European Rewilding Network, please contact us. Let’s use this new function of our network to expand our connectivity and learn from each other!

    • Circle of life
The importance of the Circle of Life in nature is paramount for many species of which some are highly threatened in their existence. Since these species rely on dead animals, restoring food chains to feed upon themselves as well as their young is one of the key aspects we aim for.

    • Human-wildlife coexistence
With wildlife -including wolf and bear- numbers increasing the past decades, much is being done to turn problems into possibilities in which both humans as the wild species that share the same environment benefit.

    • Natural grazing
Herbivores, both large and small, have had a major impact on European landscapes for centuries. With the current trend of land abandonment, natural grazing with species such as European bison and wild living horses and cattle is able to come back and play the major role in shaping landscapes and its vegetation.

    • Predation
Predation is one of the natural processes shaping landscapes since the presence of predators such as wolves can have significant impact on the way prey species roam around, in addition to the clear effect predation has on prey numbers.

    • Research & monitoring
Rewilding Europe is developing a ‘Rewilding Scale’; an evaluative tool to measure progress on the most important ecological conditions in the areas we work. In general, monitoring is used broadly to follow progress in natural areas, and volunteers as well as students can be a very valuable part of this work.

    • Rewilding
General information about 'rewilding', defined by Rewilding Europe as: Rewilding ensures natural processes and wild species to play a much more prominent role in the land- and seascapes, meaning that after initial support, nature is allowed to take more care of itself. Rewilding helps landscapes become wilder, whilst also providing opportunities for modern society to reconnect with such wilder places for the benefit of all life. • Rewilding enterprises
Successful examples of enterprises that are based on economic values of the wild and that contribute to rewilding through generating revenues, business, jobs and income can for example relate to nature based activities such as wildlife watching.

    • Wildlife watching tourism
Wildlife watching business is booming in Europe, and with many activities starting up, it is good to point out best case examples. For example, Rewilding Europe published a design guide full of information on wildlife watching hides.
