WILD10 officially launched in Spain

April 11, 2013

WILD10, the 10th World Wilderness Congress was presented to the Spanish society and the media on April 9 in Madrid. WILD10 will take place in Salamanca from 4 to 10 October 2013 under the Honorary Presidency of H.M. Queen Sofia and fostered by The Wild Foundation.

The world’s longest running conservation event arrives for the first time in a country of the Mediterranean basin. This 10th edition of the World Wilderness Congress pays special attention to the outstanding recovery of Europe’s Nature over the last decades, caused by a combination of protection and restoration policies, social recognition of its ecological and economic value, and the abandonment of rural areas. For this reason, the conceptual debate of the Congress will revolve around ‘A New Conservation Vision for Europe’ and ‘The Birth of a New Europe’, under WILD10’s general mottos Make the World a Wilder Place!

Rewilding Europe is proud to be among the main partners of WILD10, hosting sessions and workshops at the event.

“We feel that WILD10 is an incredible opportunity for Europe and we really urge everyone with any interest in wildlife, wilderness and natural values to come to Salamanca for it,” says Frans Schepers, managing director of Rewilding Europe. “We will all learn a lot, meet very interesting people, get inspired, think bigger and maybe even rethink some of what we already thought we knew! Rewilding Europe is a part of making Europe a wilder place, trying to turn the farm and grazing land abandonment problems into opportunities, for the benefit of man and nature alike. We are looking forward to discussing that and many other things with you there!”re

WILD10 will be a global, significant and innovative event, that will provide a social gathering in the broadest sense, as it invites all social, scientific, political and business sectors to participate, as well as public and private nature conservation managers. It promotes their engagement in conservation in an active way that encourages creativity and the beginning of durable collaborative strategies.

WILD10 estimates the attendance of 1,200 delegates from over 50 countries and targets 100,000 fans to stream online. The Salamanca Congress Hall and the Universities of Salamanca are the main venues where different blocks of the conference will gather.
