Geocache nature trail in Wolf mountains

April 4, 2013

Geocaching is one of the fastest growing outdoor pursuits in the world. All ages and abilities can play it and you even find hidden treasures. In the Eastern Carpathians one of those hidden treasures is the wild nature. The development of this trail was funded by Rewilding Europe.

Last year WOLF, partner of Rewilding Europe, built a new trail combined with geocaches. Sixteen hidden caches with educational information about the forest and it’s life are located near the marked path. But to find some of the caches you need to find your own way through the forest. The main goal is to show the beauty and history of the forests and local culture to the visitors. This geocache circle trail is starting and finishing in Osadne village. On the way you can see the old growth beech-fir forests of Udava national nature reserve. The trail is crossing the Slovak – Polish border and the old mountain settlement Balnica, famous for its restored forest railway.

Information about caches can be finding in in this geocache bookmark list.

This geocache trail became popular in Slovakia after its performance in a travel show produced by the biggest Slovak TV channel Markiza. More than 500 000 people saw this TV show. Record of the show is available on YouTube.
